It helps alot, if I talk closely to my daughter and tell her I know she is upset, but that she needs to control herself. Then hug her and distract her with another activity, usually works good. Sometimes asking if she needs a "time out" and walking to her time out spot, gets her to change gears real fast too.
I think parents feel it is wrong to tell a child no or ask something of them. Children are amazingly capable of more than you might think and they comprehend more than we give them credit for. It is GOOD to teach them to control thier temper. This is thier personality , the sooner they learn to deal with thier emotions the better life will be for them at school, in relationships and someday at work also. Dont hold back just do so firmly and lovingly and encourage them to express how they feel thru words (when they are talking) It is best to just distract them if they are not talking yet, because they get frustrated at not being able to communicate what they are feeling or what they want you to understand.
Toddlers test ur patience and the best way to deal with them is when your anger cools down.
